When it comes to tobacco, the shisha market is becoming harder and harder to keep track of. New rapper tobaccos, dark blend, Virginia… plenty of things that leave both newcomers and experienced smokers unsure. Virginia:

The term Virginia tobacco describes a light base tobacco that is usually lower in nicotine. Most conventional shisha tobaccos are produced on a Virginia base in order to appeal to the widest possible group of consumers. The base tobacco is classically blended with molasses, which consists of glycerine, honey and flavouring, among other things. Most Virginias are smoked in a distance setup, although many brands now also allow smoking with direct contact. Virginia is particularly suitable for beginners who do not want to be put off by a high nicotine content. Heat management is also easier in many cases, which makes for a more pleasant smoke.

Darkblend:

A dark blend, as the name suggests, is a blend of dark tobacco varieties. Different base tobaccos are mixed together, most of them rather dark and with a higher nicotine content. Which tobaccos go into a particular dark blend usually depends on the manufacturer. Many dark blends such as Kismet also enrich the shisha market with aromas and mixtures never seen before. That way you can spice up your usual mixtures with flavours such as violet or lavender. When smoking, however, you should make sure to drink enough because of the increased nicotine content. We therefore only recommend dark blends to beginners with reservations. Many dark blends also do not smoke as well in a distance setup, as the base tobacco starts to become harsh. We therefore recommend reading up on setups and bowl packing beforehand.
